Listing Items
MAXIMUM BUY QUANTITY
Sellers can choose the Maximum Buy Quantity of an item, that they will allow a single buyer to purchase, over a chosen number of days.
This can be used as a preventive measure, so that a single buyer cannot purchase 100% of their stock in a single order or in a short period of time.
Example: Quantity: 10 #Days: 3
This means that a buyer can only purchase a maximum of 10 of this item within a 3 day time period.
It can be highly important for sellers on marketplaces to utilize Maximum Buy Quantity settings to prevent a single buyer from clearing out their entire inventory. Setting these limits is a crucial strategy to ensure fair access for all customers, mitigate risks associated with inventory management, and prevent fraudulent activity.
Key Reasons for Setting a Maximum Buy Quantity
- Preventing Inventory Depletion: It stops a single purchaser, often a competitor or reseller, from buying all stock, which can leave no inventory for average customers and ruin the seller's organic ranking.
- Controlling Promotions (Loss Leaders): When running sales or deep discounts, a max limit ensures the discount encourages new customers rather than allowing one person to buy all discounted items for resale.
- Limiting Risk and Abusive Returns: For high-value or fragile items, restricting quantities can limit losses if a buyer attempts to abuse return policies.
Marketplace Tools
- Sellers can set a "Max Buy Quantity" within the "Listing Preferences" section of the "List an Item" page or within the "Listing Preferences" section of the "Seller's Camp" to control inventory per customer.
- You can choose the MBQ of an item that you will allow a single buyer to purchase, over a chosen number of days.
- Note: If either one of the fields (Quantity or Days) is left blank, there will be no MBQ set for this item.
- This can be used as a preventive measure, so that a single buyer cannot purchase 100% of your stock in a single order or in a short period of time.
Limitations
While effective, these settings do not stop a determined buyer from placing multiple, separate orders. Additionally, such limits might occasionally annoy genuine, high-volume buyers. This is why, on PatriotBuySell, we offer this as a choice to Sellers!
